As I started playing a game called Formula 1 Manager 2024, I noticed that the strategy in car racing is much more important than I thought. In today’s post. I’m going to articulate the basic Formula One strategies for a normal race.

(f1 manager 2023, a strategy game that can teach you how to manage a racing car team.)
1, undercut.
An undercut is where a driver pits before the car(s) in front to try and gain a position.
This occurs when a team believes fresher rubber will yield more pace and create a net gain over remaining on the track by the time the other car(s) has pitted. Depending on the overarching strategy, the team may fit the same compound again, or one of the other two that are available.
This tactic is often used at tracks where overtaking is more difficult, like the Hungaroring and Singapore, and strategy is the only likely method of progressing. It is also one of the most common strategy tools for overtaking.

(Aston Martin is trying to undercut other racing cars.)
2, overcut,
The overcut is where you pass by staying out after they pit and being faster on your old-tyred in-lap than they can go on their new-tyred out-lap, usually because the new tyres have not come up to temperature fast enough.
This tactic is very common in Monaco, where overtaking is extremely difficult and sacrificing track position carries a significant risk.
Both strategies can be risky and are usually used in tracks where overtaking is difficult.
3, DRS train
DRS trains are usually happened when a lot of drivers are very close to each other. However, all of them are using the DRS systems and they are still unable to overtake each other. In this kind of situation, the strategy of undercutting can take place which allows the drivers to drive in a cleaner air compared to stay in this “traffic congestion”.
4, safety car strategy.
In the situation of safety car attending the game. Safety car usually comes when there is one or more car accidents, which means all the cars need to limit their pace and cannot overtake each other. Due to the lowered speed, the cost of pitting can be much smaller and possibility of overtaking afterwards is enlarged.
5, red flag
During a red flag interruption, drivers are permitted to change tyres and fix damage to their cars with other new parts, meaning the obligation to run two different compounds can be fulfilled without losing any time.
This eventuality can have a negative influence on those who have already stopped, losing out as there’s no way for them to get the time lost in a pitstop back.
